Our first meeting in what must be 2 years, and we had a good number of members attend. To start our 22/23 programme, we were delighted to welcome old friend and now our President, Peter Cronin RSMA.
The Society must thank Paul Arnott for driving back home to fetch his camera after ours failed. He kindly drove back home and did the techie stuff and so, albeit late, Peter was able to start his magic.
Peter is the most generous of artists, when demonstrating or teaching; he shares his knowledge of the medium in a way that is simple and practical. He explained how he always gives his painting a title, at the outset, to enable him to keep on track and focus on what caught his eye in the first instant...how he keeps his washes loose initially, and that he introduces variants of colour into these, and incorporates hard and soft edges, lost and found edges, tone, shape, colour in that order. He also makes us laugh!! We watched an amazing painting 'develop' over the course of the demo...which given the initial delay, was a masterclass in painting, talking and entertaining all at the same time....at speed, under pressure!
Thank you Peter, an amazing evening from an amazing artist!
