Adrian Metcalfe Talk

2 January 2018

Despite Storm Eleanor doing her best, a good number of members braved the weather to see and hear a most fascinating lecture on Adrian's voyage into abstract art. He explained, with the aid of slides of his work, how he began exploring landscapes, light, pattern and importantly the journey to his chosen subjects. He researched ancient sites and landmarks, waterfalls, pools and landscapes - all painted (mainly in oil) in amazing detail, gradually moving towards abstraction of aspects within these landscapes. His work also includes seascapes and islands... Adrian explained his thoughts, ideas, inspirations and I cannot do justice to all his insights, I forgot to take notes after the break as I was totally immersed in this fascinating lecture. The members extend their heartfelt thanks to Adrian, for not just the lecture but also for bringing some stunning paintings and portfolios for members to view up close!

Lysbeth Davies again won the Rosemary Bramley Cup for the best line & wash painting with Park House, designed by William Burgess, completed 1874. As Lysbeth was not able to be present at the prize giving evening, we took advantage of Adrian Metcalfe's presence and he presented Lysbeth with her well deserved award (left). Congratulations Lysbeth!!
